Trick 'r Treat - What Did You Think?
Alright we've given you some time to digest this film. It was released this past Tuesday to an overwhelming response. Many areas are sold out of the film completely and the wait list on direct mail sites like Netflix is so long it might be next Halloween before you get a copy. Hopefully you took our advice and pre ordered yours...

With all the complaining about remakes and sequels we finally get an original movie that is literally dripping with the feeling of Halloween. But we do realize that we see things differently than others may. Whether it be movie preference, themes, pacing, actors the list literally goes on and on on why one person may enjoy a movie and others don't. With that being said, we want you to rate Trick 'r Treat and compare it to other horror films in the same genre.
So is this movie a new holiday classic or not worth the hype?

The interwoven story lines in the movie are PERFECT. The mix of the graphic novel/comic and story adds to the film as a whole. The character of Sam, while you can guess what/who he is is revealed at the end and brings all the story lines together.
You aren't left wondering "why!?".
I must admit, that some characters are a bit hokey, but it sure beats the hell out of CG. Michael Dougherty does a fabulous job of weaving everything together and truly incorporating the mystery and lore of Samhain into a carnage-filled, cohesive and entertaining movie.
To those who said to him "bring on prettier actors" or "bring in more famous people", screw off! The movie is perfect the way it is and I think the fact that only a few actors are well known separates this movie, from other big budget horror movies which are more about appearance than substance.
So in sum, buy it and show your support, this is going to be a classic for years to come.
i thought it was a fun film. it didnt change my world - few films do - but i never heard any 'hype' that suggested it would.
all i heard is that people liked it - and so did i.
i think it'll be a minor halloween classic because there arent that many halloween films to begin with... and it was definately a big salute to halloween (right down to the little 'spirit of halloween' guy)
What I don't get is how "Trick R' Treat" the greatest Halloween movie I've ever seen in my life, can possibly be a straight to DVD release, when "Saw X: Jigsaw vs Jason in Space" is put front and centre at Cineplexes everywhere. And did I mention that the best Halloween movie I've ever seen in my life, happens to also be the best anthology movie I've ever seen in my life (though, no other good ones really come to mind)?
"Trick R' Treat" is basically four short stories seamlessly intertwined with each other, moving ever so elegantly between places, that there is never any down time. As for the stories themselves, there isn't a single clunker in the bunch. Every single one of them is completely drenched in black comedy and grizzly irony.
Despite the characteristically dark nature of the themes, it never forgets to be in the good spirit of Halloween. Rather then go through the cumbersome effort of trying to be genuinely scary, "Trick R' Treat" instead occupies itself with being light, hilarious, and most of all, fun.
It was fun. Something horror has sadly lost lately. The film was just fun from start to finish, not torture porn or gory to the point that you laugh nervously. It was one of those movies that you watch, it leaves you with a big smile wanting more. Just like Halloween night.
It's a classic already, and will be the perennial Halloween film to watch each and every year. Perfect match with Carpenters original Halloween, it's really that good.
Trick R Treat takes this concept that was lost on John Carpenter & the studio in the 80's...and made it work in one film. It's the Creepshow of the Halloween Season. It created new iconic monsters like the Halloween School Bus Massacre zombies, Sam Hain, Lil' Red Riding Wolf, Father & Son Serial Killers who Carve Face Pumpkins, a masked Vampire, and the old Grinch of All Hollows Eve. With a sequel announced...I think if we can survive the years yet to come...we will all be treated with more tricks! This movie rocked and there's nothing like it! I hope it inspires more QUALITY Halloween Horror!
