Saw VI Review - Is the Franchise Dead?

Saw fans and horror fans in general have had one thing to look forward to the past 6 years around Halloween and that 's a new Saw film. Some love the series for its brutal realistic torture scenes and the elaborate nature that Jigsaw sets up his traps. The series always seems to come full circle and after a sub par "Part 5" movie, does the series recapture the magic?...

Follow up:

Well I thought this was going to be an easy movie to review. I caught the opening of SAW VI at midnight last night and before going into it I was sure I'd be able to sum it up in one word..SUCKED!

I'm amazed to report though it was actually pretty good. Its actually entertaining and imaginative this time around. Jigsaw is back and the new traps and kills don't disappoint! Its got some tense moments and some all out brutality.

Its shot entirely on video so you might not like the lack of film look; theirs too many flashbacks; some of the acting is sub par....costars Mandylor as Hoffman slugs around in the movie like a bloated Sylvester Stallone look alike but over all the complaints are minimal.

Theirs also some killer social commentary that is pretty dead on and avoids being hokey.
If you like a brutal GORE film....go see SAW VI. It delivers the goods and should be a lot of fun this Halloween.

SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!

The end kill is I think the best in the franchise thus far.....this piece of shit of a human being after being tortured for an hour through various "tests" gets hammered with hundreds of needles that proceed to pump hydrofluoric acid through his body. The end result is gobs of organs and intestines spilling all over the floor!

special thanks to Evan aka NY Ghoul for the review!

If you've given up on the SAW series (rightly so to an extent) I would say give the new one a try. It ties together some of the loose story lines and answers the questions and like I said it was a fun gore fest. A nice bloody surprise.
As for another one? its coming lol.

While it's good to hear that they've made another decent one instead of the usual crapfest, I would love for this to be the end of Saw. I remember when Trick 'r Treat was being delayed there was a lot of talk about not wanting to put it up against the Saw franchise around Halloween. I know that there are a lot of other possible reasons surrounding it's direct to DVD release, but the thought of it having anything to do with Saw really gets my goat. It makes you wonder how many other great movies may be lying around on a dusty shelf somewhere because of similar reasons. Personally, I've had enough Saw to last two lifetimes. Hollywood did what it always does and ran one of the better horror movies of the last ten years directly into the ground to make a buck. People will continue to go see it simply because there aren't that many options for the season; after all if it's Halloween . . . it must be Saw. Blah, Kill it!

I couldn't agree more with the above reviewer. It's time for a new slew of films to be able to contend for Halloween release dates. This franchise is sad and tired. Less torture, more horror! Instead of desensitizing another generation of "horror" fans with torture porn that masquerades as thinly-veiled social commentary, Why don't you try scaring me for a change?

thank u gummi! words well spoken, well @ least typed, lol

The "torture porn" slogan is so played its not funny NOR is it an accurate tag. Torture Porn exists....AUGUST UNDERGROUND; SCRAPBOOK; LA PETIT MORTE; GUINEA PIG.

And why do some people act like brutal gore is a new generation horror? please go back to the 70's and start your way up. There are hundreds of brutal films that were gore for gore's sake and just for an all out fun horror fest. Many even had social commentary.
The new SAW does as well lol....I don't think JIGSAW is a fan of Obama's proposed government controlled "free" health coverage!
That being said I WOULD like to see a new franchise that is a different sub genre of horror.

I have to admit, I thougt the series was dead after watching pt.5, but to my utter surprise, 6 was AWESOME!!!! I want it to contiue until at least 10, and I will be there to watch every new installment. I highly recommended everyone that thought this series was dead to go watch it.
