'Paranormal Activity' Torturing 'Saw' at the Box Office

Early box office estimates are in and according to Deadline Hollywood, Paranormal Activity scored an estimated 7.5M on Friday despite being in about 1,100 less theaters than SAW VI, which took in an estimated 6.9M....

Follow up:

Weekend totals for Paranormal Activity are estimated to be 21M when all is said and done, while SAW VI (arguably the best entry in the series since SAW III) will likely come away with a modest 18M for the weekend. We'll have actual numbers once they become available....

It seems there is a large number of Saw haters these days. Is this good news or bad news?

And because we may not get the chance again, a random night vision shot of a girl screaming in the audience while watching Paranormal Activity! :-) God I'm gonna miss these...

I've just returned from this little gem and can safely say that this movie delivers the goods. There will be a few detractors who will sit in this movie determined not to "buy into" the hype and come out bad mouthing it. You know who you are. But for the rest of us who sat down, shut up and went along for the ride without too much influence from blogs and jaded reviewers, this movie was scary as hell and terrifically original. Kudos to everyone involved. I'm glad to know that a small budgeted, original idea has gone the distance to unseat the Saw franchise. It's time for something new.
