Paranormal Activity's 'Original' Ending
A lot has been said about Paranormal Activity and the numbers simply don't lie! The movie is on pace to become one of Paramount's most profitable films ever released. With a shoe string budget and a marketing campaign that mirrored the monster hit The Blair Witch Project, the little movie that could did! However, mystery surrounded the original ending. It was the talk of the horror community but now we've unearthed the actual footage....

A brand new video has surfaced on YouTube featuring the original alternate ending of the smash-hit horror film Paranormal Activity, which is currently the number 1 movie in America and playing in theaters nationwide. It has been widely reported that Steven Speilberg suggested the ending that we saw in theaters, so take a look at how Oren Peli originally conceived his film to end.

I like the theatrical one better. Love the idea of the alternate ending, but as Chad said, it's way too drawn out. Theres one little thing i wish they would have done differently with the theatrical ending. Instead of jumping at the camera after smelling/licking Mikah, i wish she would have just looked up at the audience with an evil little smile with maybe a creepy little giggle. I thought the jump was a little cheesy. All in all thought, fantastic movie!

even though this particular alternate ending kinda sucked as well, I think anything is better than the original that I saw in theatres. the entire movie was halfway realistic until he flies into the camera and she comes out looking like linda blair.

GinaBean, did this movie suck? Really? That makes me wonder what your idea of a quality low budget horror offering might be. I'm a pretty ardent fan of horror in general and have seen and enjoyed hundreds of flix and PA ranked pretty high with me. Perfect? no, but considering the budgetary confines, it's a hell of a lot more effective than a lot of the stuff that the major studios keep serving up. What a baseless comment.

Great find HorrorBid. I just found out the three endings that were shot and screend. By all means if you haven't seen the film yet don't read on below....
The current ending: Every version of the climax that I've heard about has Micah dashing downstairs after Katie is dragged out of the bed/room, where some sort of off-screen ruckus takes place and only a bloody Katie returns. In this version, Katie tosses Micah's body at the camera from the hallway (a great money shot, I'll admit, albeit one given away in the trailer), kneels down beside his body to either sniff or lick it, and then approaches the camera before smiling and then lunging at the lens. A title card informs us that Micah's body was found on whatever date, and that Katie's whereabouts are still unknown...
A little too Hollywood cliffhanger-y for my tastes, but it plays better on the screen than I'd heard.
The original ending: This time, Micah stays downstairs as Katie returns to the bedroom, covered in blood and now holding a knife. She proceeds to rock on the floor next to the bed for something like two days straight.* We hear a friend (the girl who offered that Katie stay at her place, I'm guessing) leave a message on their answering machine, wondering where they are. She later stops by, presumably finds Micah dead downstairs, screams and leaves. The police then show up later, with Katie only awakening from her catatonic state as they come up the stairs, with guns drawn. She's covered in blood, holding a knife and very confused as to what's going on, and so the officers proceed to fire on her. The title card then dedicates the film to the couple's memory.
This one is a bit anti-climactic, yes, but I think it's a bit more tragic that Katie's been tormented all her life, only to face an unwitting death such as this.
The alternate ending(s): Now, several endings were shot after the film was picked up. The only one of those that I've seen described anywhere was screened maybe once at a test screening, and Peli suggests that we may see it yet on the DVD. In this version, Micah dies downstairs, bloody Katie returns to the bedroom with knife in hand, and she proceeds to slit her own throat in front of the camera (without looking right into it).
I personally prefer this one because Micah makes a gesture with a knife in the kitchen very early on, suggesting that whatever the problem is, they'll [slicing motion] take care of it. That might've made for a nice bookend, and would've been disturbing regardless.

I saw this movie last weekend as a matinee. In my opinion, I thought the deleted ending to the movie was more fitting to the movie and made better sense storyline wise to me than the original one shown in theaters. I actually kind of thought the ending was great till the very very end...I don't want to spoil anything for those who have not seen the movie yet...but the last 5 seconds killed it for me...and actually the matinee audience watching the film with me had a "wtf" look to them and just said "oooooooookaaaaayyyyyyyyy" and then utter silence...I think it would have had a better dramatic effect if the producer of the film had used the screener ending as opposed to the theatrical one, in my opinion.

I'm so glad to finally find a video that hasn't been ripped off the internet due to copyright violations. This ending was great. I especially love how the light in the back room flickers on and off as the police ascend the stair case and the door shuts. The end version I saw in theaters was predictable and not quite as compelling in my opinion. It was a great movie overall. Maybe not epic, but definitely suspenseful and a great watch. It had me on the edge of my seat. I'll definitely watch it again given the chance.

I don't understand all the hoopla about this movie. Not only was the beginning horribly laborious, but I have seen both versions and quite frankly the only really terrifying part was when she got drug out of the bed .... everything else was just slightly unnerving ..her standing at the bed for hours, the flaming ouija board,the picture in the attic...yawn... not really very suspenseful/terrifying as everyone hyped it to be.
I'm sure I will get lambasted for that comment but whatever...

In my opinion the new ending was much better. If you watch her hands in the last scene they imitate the odd footprints from earlyer in the film. Besides, rocking back and forth is just a sign of a crazy person, not a sign of being possesed.besides the fact that real horror is not dramatic like most hollywood would portray it, but more subtle and working its way up untill someone snaps, and or is possesed.

I'm back. Just so peeps know. Don't F**k around with wigi boards (or however you wana spell that) they litteraly are not a game. I like the fact that the movie is about a demon, not a ghost, wich in my opinion, don't exist. The movie is more of a warning, wether or not you want to believe it is real. The devil is real and he doesn't give a S**t how you feel. The person who dies first in the film is the one who messed around, played with the board and challenged the demon.
