'Hellraiser' Remake Happening Come Hell or High Water

Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees aren't the only ones getting attention these days. Pinhead, never to be outdone by the more mainstream trio, will be coming back to the big screen sooner rather than later in a Hellraiser reboot says the Weinstein Brothers....

Follow up:

No ifs, ands, or buts about it: The Weinstein Company is determined to redo Hellraiser.

In their 2009 American Film Market guide, in a two-page spread, is Clive Barker's Hellraiser. Barker is still listed as an executive producer, but there is no writer and no director attached.

"The re-telling of Clive Barker's classic horror masterpiece. Based on Barker's critically acclaimed novella "The Hellbound Heart," Hellraiser tells the story of an unfaithful wife who attempts to assist her dead lover in his escape from hell. Having lost his earthly body to a trio of forsaken demons - lead bby one of the most enduring horror characters of all time, Pinhead - he must force his former mistress to bring him the necessary human sacrifices to complete his body. Clive Barker's Hellraiser promises to be a terrifying journey into the darkest corners of the soul."

So reads TWC's synopsis.

Now, we reported earlier last month that that Bob Weinstein is mulling over doing the film in 3-D. But there is no mention of that motive in the film guide. With the recent waive however of 3D themed horror movies, namely the ones that TWC are behind one would assume that Hellraiser may make it into the 3D realm and as some of out users have pointed our, Hellraiser may be one of the few horror films that really would make the most sense in 3D. With the constat barrage of chains flying around and demonic boxes opening, 3D may just be the ticket.

What are your thoughts?

Not being a big fan of remakes in general, I have to admit that this is a film that could be improved with the addition of the technology available today. There are terrible lightning effects in this movie that could be redone very convincingly today. Otherwise, I have nothing bad to say against the original, I just thought a few of the effects sequences might be improved upon. All in all, this is still a great film that stands up fairly well. Uncle Frank's becoming is still awesome by today's standards. Doug Bradley is the man!
