Scream 4 News - Spoof Mixed with Plenty of Scares
Yes it's an incredibly slow news day. So on a day of reflection about the men and women in our armed forces one can deal with a shortage of horror news for a period but we do have something to tide you over. Kevin Williamson the screen-writer for the original Scream trilogy and the new installments sheds even more light on the fourth film....
Follow up:
There is no denying that the "rules" have chanced since Scream popped on the scene back in 1996. The film that revitalized a generation of horror movies and film goers has become the popcorn flick of Saturday night on AMC.
Horror has evolved and has borrowed from the brilliant writing of Kevin Williamson and direction of Wes Craven and built upon it and added depths of realism that can turn even the most hardcore fans stomach. With the recent onslaught of torture porn flicks (Saw and Hostel) to the Asian inspired horror films (The Ring and The Grudge) how will Scream turn the horror genre on it's head like it dead with its dead pan lampooning of slasher flicks like it did in '96.
The New York Post’s PopWrap talked to writer Kevin Williamson about the looming fourth film in the franchise: ”The thing about 'Scream 4' is that there are a lot of twists and turns, so I can't promise anything", meaning any of our returning characters might not live to see another sequel beyond 4.
Commenting on the changes within the horror genre, Williamson said the following: "I've [included] manga comics, Asian ghost girl movies, there's some PG-13 horror movies in there, vampire movies, M. Night Shyamalan movies and torture porn movies, even though they've come and gone." And while it seems like that might give the film a jokey feel, the writer is quick to alleviate the concern: "You have to be careful because 'Scary Movie' spoofed these films, so one of the things I'm excited about with 'Scream 4' is that, while we do lampoon and send up the genre, [we] make it incredibly scary. That's first and foremost."
It certainly has our ears perked up!
