Follow up:
10. Santa's Slay (2005)
If not the best premise for a horror movie ever! In SANTA’S SLAY Mr. Claus is actually the spawn of Satan who has only pretended to be nice for the past 1,000 because he lost a bet to an angel. However, when he's done with being nice he goes on a naughty killing spree. As far as we know, this is the only flick where the actual Santa (not somebody in disguise) is going on a murderous rampage. But that’s still not the best part. Santa is played by former wrestler Bill Goldberg! Ho Ho Jackhammer!!!
9. P2 (2007)
Hmmmm, I guess we can call this a Christmas horror flick since it takes place during the holiday season. However, most of the time is spent in a parking garage. Ladies, P2 is one of those movies with life lessons. If some creepy security guard in your building starts acting all psycho what you don’t do is walk to your car by yourself in the parking garage . . . especially during the loneliest time of the year for creeps like Wes Bentley’s character. Still, he goes out with a bang (too bad about that dog though).
8. Child's Play (1988)
Hi, I’m Chuc . . . excuse me . . Tommy. Wanna Play? Yeah, another Christmas present gone really bad movie. When I initially think CHILD’S PLAY I envision a killer doll, Charles Lee Ray and a slasher icon. Still, this plastic legend originated as one of the biggest Christmas gifts the horror genre ever received. Dolls can be freak’n scary man and that pumpkin haired ginger more than deserves to be on the list.
7. Don't Open Till Christmas (1984)Do you hate Santa? Well if you do than DON’T OPEN TILL CHRISTMAS is the movie for you. Leave it to the U.K. to give us a story about a loony who goes about murdering people in Santa suits. In this holiday slasher, we get a great film for the whole family to enjoy.
6. Jack Frost (1996)
Can you get any more low-budget than this? First and foremost we aren’t saying this is a good movie by any means of the imagination but its crazy plot and cult status has landed it on our list. An escape convict gets mixed up in some toxic chemicals turning him to a killing snowman machine. What’s even funnier is the holiday family film with the same name starring Michael Keaton is often confused with this making some more conservative parents very upset.
5. Black Christmas (1974)
If you’re a horror fan then this film needs no introduction. You might be extremely loyal to this holiday movie or maybe you despise it but BLACK CHRISTMAS’s cult classic status earns it a place on our list. Yes, there was a remake however we won’t talk about that abortion of everything that made the original good. There’s just nothing like a good old fashions psycho knocking off sorority girls . . . not to mention Margot Kidder.
4. Gremlins (1984)
Three rules one must follow when owning a magua: keep it away from bright light, don’t get it wet, and never feed it after midnight. Honestly, who didn’t think Gizmo wasn’t cute? I know, you don’t find the words ‘cute’ and ‘horror’ in the same sentence very often. Still, Spike and his mischievous band of monsters reeking havoc on Christmas make GREMLINS a must see holiday film for any horror fan!
3. Christmas Evil (1980)
One of the better Christmas horror efforts, a disturbed toymaker who hates how commercialized Christmas has become, disguises himself as Santa to pay all those who are naughty a little visit. If you’re looking for horror with a genuine Christmas vibe this is the movie for you. Ironically enough, the foreman has nothing but good intentions about preserving the spirit of Christmas. Unfortunately there are a lot of naughty children in his neighborhood.
2. Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984)
This slasher Christmas horror movie was released in 1984 to much controversy. Angry parents and others condemned the film because the killer is dressed in a Santa suit wielding a fire axe. I don’t see what the fuss was about? He was simply looking to his hardcore catholic up breaking for guidance. The Nuns punished teens who had sex so why shouldn’t he? (only he’s dressed as Santa Claus). Plus, we know the rules about any good horror movie . . . teens have sex and they DIE, DIE, DIE!!!
1. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
Another cult classic to put it mildly. As far as blending the themes of horror and Christmas THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS owns the #1 spot on our list. It’s not the scariest or bloodiest but it captures the best of both holidays by artistically bleeding them together. Yes, you can argue that it’s technically not a horror film but it includes so many horror elements we couldn’t ignore its impact.
