'Saw VII 3D' The Endgame - The Death of the Franchise?

Although Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures recently confirmed we would see the return of Jigsaw once again in Saw 8, plans for the follow up film may be dead before the script gets printed on paper. In a recent interview with screenwriter Patrick Melton (Saw IV-VII) he reveals that due to the lackluster numbers Saw VII 3D could be the end of Jigsaw once and for all. Did Paranormal Activity damage the brand to the point of no return?...

Follow up:

"I mean, I think it's going to end with Saw VII," Melton tells Latino Review "I have a very strong feeling its going to end with Saw VII. That's something we're debating now. You saw in previous interviews or discussions where we thought Saw VIII would be the last one where we had the first trilogy and the second trilogy and then sort of a grand finale wrapped up in two films. But frankly because Saw VI hasn't performed as well as we anticipated, the idea is well why make two movies when we can make one really excellent movie that wraps up as best we can? And it's going to be in 3-D which sort of adds to the spectacle. So if you had to ask me, I don't own the franchise, nor do I run the studio, but I have a feeling, a strong feeling that it's going to be Saw VII which will be also known as Endgame. And nothing's official yet, but that's where we're hoping things will go."

Bidites is this a good thing? Are you ready for the SAW franchise to go away?

yes, please let it stop. The movies are must end, tired of studios wanting their own star wars trilogy, or wanting to beat it.

I have a feeling that this series is nearing it's end.

Can't wait till it's all over. How 6 ended, that I thought wrapped up a lot of questions. Now how are they gonna make a "finale" film worth another hour and a half of wasted time, and better yet in 3D (which 3D movies I think are WAY overrated).

If they stop while they're ahead, they're saving the humiliation, or if they wanna humiliate each other one more time, they should have Darren Lynn Bousman "direct" the last film.

I was fine with 6, and my rants on SAW are all hate for the most part. SAW 6 would have been a great stopping point to me. In any case if 7 is were they want to end it, what can you say but ... here we go.
