'The Walking Dead' Pilot Has an Official Start Date
Is prime time ready for "The Walking Dead?" If it isn't, it better get its family zombie apocalypse plan together. We just got wind that AMC has set a May 15th start date for a pilot based on the cult favorite comic, "The Walking Dead." The comic, which was created by writer Robert Kirkman and artist Tony Moore, chronicles the travels of a group of people trying to survive in a world stricken by a zombie apocalypse...
Follow up:
The pilot is reportedly going to be directed by Frank Darabont, who helmed the Stephen King adaptations "The Green Mile" and "The Shawshank Redemption," arguably the best big screen King adaptation to date. The pilot is going to be shot in and around Atlanta, Georgia.
American Movie Classics has gone from rapidly approaching irrelevancy to becoming one of the cutting edge cable networks. Turner Classic Movies had pretty much taken over the classic movie market, and AMC was showing pretty much the same stuff as FX and USA. That's changed with the network picking up edgy primetime dramas like "Breaking Bad" and "Mad Men," which was turned down by HBO.
AMC ran a restored, uncut version of George A. Romero's "Night of the Living Dead" for Halloween this past year. They must have liked what they saw. In any event, a primetime series based on "The Walking Dead" would lend credence to the argument that zombies are the new vampires.
