John Carpenter's Involvment in 'Escape From New York' Remake
We announced a few days ago that writer Allan Loeb (21, Wall Street 2) is set to pen the remake of John Carpenter's cult classic 'Escape From New York.' MTV news has caught up with Loeb to try and nail down what ideas he has for the remake and what role John Carpenter and Kurt Russel might play...
Follow up:
"I see it as a big movie," he said. "I see it as possibly, hopefully the beginning of a franchise. I know (New Line) tried with 'Escape from LA' a few years back and it didn't work out but it's try, try again in Hollywood."
Loeb added that he's not sure whether Carpenter will be brought on for the project. "I don't know how much John Carpenter is involved," he said. "I don't think he's involved extensively. I know I did my work without his tutelage."
Regarding Kurt Russell, Loeb revealed that the actor will be replaced but there will be a cameo for him if he wants it. "The only reason I would think [he wouldn't be involved] is if Kurt didn't want to do it," the writer explained. "I'd be the first to jump on my computer and find the cameo for you. If [New Line] asked me to, it would be a lot of fun."
And regarding the story, Loeb gave a brief plot synopsis: "Put four walls around the island of Manhattan, drop in the world's most dangerous criminals and what's the ecosystem that arises?"
