The directors said that they ASKED Robert Englund first BUT HE DODN'T WANT TO DO IT. I got so mad at all who said that they were retarded and not asking him to play the role.
I think this looks awesome and I can't wait.
For those of you how still hate the trailer and the movie I dont mind but in my opinion I think this looks good.
How else did you expect the man to sound? The guy was set on fire and burned to death. I think the dude inhaled a ton of smoke and I'm sure the heat also burned his vocal chords. I think he sounds fantastic and extremely creepy!
Anyway really enjoyed the trailer, i have no issues with his voice, really looking forward to the release.
Ultimok - Good eye. That is explained in the script we posted a week ago (that Warner Bros. asked us to take down). The Freddy Chase by the parents is a flashback/dream that Kyle Gallner experiences. He finds himself in an ocean then emerges from a pool of water to witness the origin of Freddy.
I've been a fan since they announced the film. But it's good to see the haters turning the corner for the most part.
In all honesty the idea of Freddy for me has always been more frightening than the actual guy. It appears they are finally making him truly and deeply scary again. It will be nice to hear a new generation mentioning that their childhood trauma was Freddy Krueger...because I can relate to that.
The ONLY complaint I have is the CG on the wall bit. They really should have left it to the type of effects they used in the old version, that was highly affective. I am by no means a hater of CGI as it helps a lot sometimes, but this is a bit blatant. Sort of like the bear and deer in The Wolfman.
All in all, this just peaked my interest and made it a definite for me to be sitting in the cinema during the firts week of this. In fact I have a feeling that it won't be on DVD quick enough for my taste.
By the way, big thumbs up on making Freddy absolutely terrifying and yet a sarcastic bastard: "I haven't even cut you yet"
THERE IS WAY TOO MUCH LIGHT ON EVERYTHING---IT NEEDS TO BE DARKER !!!
THE CGI OF THE FACE COMING OUT OF THE WALL LOOKS LIKE CRAP--COMPARED TO THE ORIGINAL ( IN CAMERA) OLD SCHOOL WAY
DAMN
I WAS MORE EXCITED BEFOR THIS TRAILER !!!!!!!
NOW I'M REAL WORRIED !!!!
OH YA
HE LOOKS LIKE A DOOFUS STANDING AT THE CHALK BOAD ( HE HAS NO CHIN !!!)
WTF !!!!!
This film so far just seems to bubblegum, rainbow colors lighting.
Give me cool blues , whites and BLACKS with just the right amount of BLOOD RED
I hear what you are saying, but you want to find that happy middle point where it's not too light and not too dark, but keep in mind, that what you don't see---in the mind's eye will always look better than anyone can shoot. Leave a little up to the imagination.
I really love to bed room door opening shot and the Freddy's hat shot in the attic ( not on the trailers, but on the ComicCon reel) Those are dark and creepy and right on target.
Here's another good example of my point: The new Wolfman,
It's way too lit and it shows way too much of the Wolfman. I think the should have kept the Wolfman more in the shadows and not shown too much. The only really good shot in that film is when we see the claw hand up close as the victim is running up the hill to get away ( it's in the trailers). I would have much preferred to see more of that subtle bits and pieces of the Wolfman instead of all running and over the top fights scenes.
Several films recent that get it right: "Let the Right One In" , "Them" , "House of the Devil"
All three of these films never show too much and Let the Right One In has one of the most bad ass, smart, OFF CAMERA, kills that I have ever seen ( That pool sequence will rank among one of the best EVER). The House of the Devil just is creeping as hell with out showing ANYTHING for over an hour---fucking awesome. !!. "Them" everything for the most part is in the shadows and ROCKS.
That's how horror needs to be--I wish the new ANOES filmmakers could have taken a page out of those film lighting and atmosphere playbook !!!
Years ago I had the good fortune of meeting Jacques Haitkin the DOP of the original an we talked one on one for about 20 minutes before he had to fly back to LA. He was in town shooting Buried Alive 2. I worked at the airport in Wilm NC. We only talked about the lighting and the look of the film and how they wanted it to be dark literally and figuratively --that is ANOES period

I don't disagree with SOME of your points but--there have only been THREE different sweaters ( Part 1, New Nightmare, and all the rest were the same) maybe a couple miner little details in the stripes. I'm just saying there is something that really worked for the look of the original sweater---that made it creepier and you would think they leave it alone. I think the reason I NEVER liked the full stripes is because it's too Dr. Seuss / Christmas or something?.
I mean what if they changed to look of the hat in a big way--same thing really.
I WAS excited about JEH playing Freddy, hell look at the "bone structure" in his face as Rorschach---that looks spot on for a very cool Freddy shape. BECAUSE HE HAS A STRONG CHIN !!!!!!!!! and STRONG CHEEK BONES-----I don't see either in the new make up? Yet
Now--If his look, looks anywhere like the photo up at "Horror Bid"---the one that I guess is a Photoshop trick w/ the new toy---Then I'l sold, because that Photoshop photo of the toy ROCKS !!!!!!!
When the announced he was playing Freddy, I was like AWESOME !!!----and the guy is a damn good actor so we'll see.
May be he'll be so good that the "Look" becomes secondary, but that will be a tough sell--we'll see
