'The Thing' Prequel Special Effects Team Announced
Making a prequel to John Carpenter's classic THE THING is an uphill battle in the first place. Adding even more barriers to that hill is the simple fact that for a dated film the special effects are still some best around. Today we have news about which F/X team will be taking over the daunting task...
Follow up:
Variety reports that Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff, Jr., of Amalgamated Dynamics, Inc, are handling FX duties and boys start rolling up your sleeves cause you have a task in front of you.
The great thing about this crew is their pedigree. This is the same crew who brought us such creatures as Alien, Predator, the graboids from Tremors, and the many bugs from Starship Troopers.
Filming for THE THING prequel starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton begins filming in Toronto on March 15th.
Synopsis: A Ph.D. candidate (Winstead) joins a Norwegian research team in Antarctica after it discovers an alien ship in the ice. When a trapped organism is freed and begins a series of attacks, she is forced to team with a blue-collar mercenary helicopter pilot (Edgerton) to stop the rampage.

All I really have to say is that if this woman ends up being a sort of "Ripley" for the alien and kills it, while they ignore the fact the others chased it with a helicopter then I'll just be rather livid. I can't for a trailer to finally get some ideas about this.
