New 'Planet of the Apes' Prequel Director and Story
According to Deadline, director Rupert Wyatt has been hired to bring Planet of the Apes into the new decade. The last time we saw a film in the Planet of the Apes franchise make it off the cutting room floor was the 2001 reboot by Tim Burton...
Follow up:

Who is Rupert Wyatt? He’s a British director who’s directed less than a handful of projects since his debut in 1999. His most recent film was the 2008 picture, The Escapist. According to Fleming, he’s just taken on the responsibility of directing the Planet of the Apes prequel for 20th Century Fox, but at the moment no production start date has been given.
The film’s script was penned by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, and it will center on the technology that was used to create these super-human, hyper-intelligent apes. Sounds like we’ll see what it was that specifically caused humans to become inferior to the primates and the science behind it.
