Bye Reitman! Studio Wants Younger Director for 'Ghostbusters 3'

All we've had to go on thus far is rumors concerning Ghostbusters 3D, if it ever gets off the ground. From the rumored Bill Murray ghost to plot details everything has either been a supposed leak or rumor that is until today...

Follow up:

According to New York Magazine's Vulture, Columbia Pictures wants a younger director for Ghostbusters 3. One small issue, Ivan Reitman director and writer for the first two Ghostbusters has a contract that gives him creative control, including director approval of a 3rd film should it get off the ground.

Here are some tidbits from the article that Ghostbustering fans will want to read.

"Reitman's old contract still gives him exceptional creative control over the series, including director approval. 'Those deals were made in the Eighties,' explains one insider, 'so his rights in this circumstance have a great deal of teeth.' Therefore, while it’s true that Reitman can’t force Columbia to make Ghostbusters 3 with him, he can make it nearly impossible for the studio to make the film without him."

"In fact, a source tells" [Vulture] "that Reitman and all three original principals (Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, and Harold Ramis … sorry, Ernie Hudson!) have a deal that says that if any of the four of them don’t like any element of a new Ghostbusters, they can singlehandedly veto and kill the project; it has to be unanimously approved before going forward."

Another layer of icing on the cake. It will be interesting to see where this goes. For more Ghostbuster news stay tuned.

Guess this'll NEVER happen then, what a shame... really looking forward to more 'busting.

Why on earth would they not want Reitman - it's like bringing back Star Wars but telling George Lucas to take a hike!! Ridiculous...

As much as I would love to see another Ghostbusters film. I say fair fucking play to them. That horse would've been flogged to death a long time ago without a that contract.

If Ivan Reitman doesn't direct it, then I'm not seeing it!
