Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' in 4-D at Universal Studios?
A few days ago CHUD had the pleasure to sit down with John Landis, director of the most popular music video in television history, THRILLER. We learned the Jackson estate was very interested in turning the THRILLER video into a full 3D experience...
Follow up:
If you've seen "THIS IS IT", the documentary of Jackson's last warm up performances before his death, you're aware they re-shot a large chunk of the "THRILLER" video using brand new 3D technology with the intentions of turning the entire arena into a 3D screened 4D experience. According to associate producer Travis Payne "We had 3D and also frontal elements and overhead elements that actually created a 4D environment that the audience was sitting it." Jackson, Payne and the rest of the team scoured the country to find a technology company large enough to build the screen they wanted, and in the process, they started to build the largest 3D LED screen in the world. To fully immerse the crowd in a 4D experience.
Talks of releasing "THRILLER" back in theaters surfaced this past week with questions of how a 15 minute long music video would hold up as a ticket item in a movie theater. We are hearing rumors today that the execs at Universal Studios theme park would like to create a "THRILLER 4D" experience much like the concert producers and Michael Jackson himself wanted before he passed. Similar to the experience Universal is doing with their re-opening of the "KING KONG" experience. It looks as if both sides are in negations about this possibility and it will be interesting to see where this leads. MJ and "THRILER" fans this could be the ultimate experience. Stay tuned for more details.

It's a shame the "This Is It" 3D Thriller wasn't shown in 3D in the film - having that giant black widow crawl towards us would have been awesome!!
