Ron Howard to Direct Stephen King’s 'The Dark Tower'

The crew at Imagine Entertainment have approached Stephen King about nabbing the rights to the "The Dark Tower" series and turning it into a movie before expanding the franchise onto TV land as an ongoing series...

Follow up:

The plan thus far see's screen writer Akiva Goldsman penning the script with Ron Howard sitting in the directors seat. We have to think this is good news for all King fans as the previews crew (J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot and the boys of “Lost”) just couldn't seem to make the property work for them. This definitely sky rockets the possibility of this series of films (possibly a trilogy) to be huge blockbusters in vien of the "Lord of the Ring" series.

Plot Synopsis: “The Dark Tower” series follows Roland, a mythical gunslinger who pursues "The Man in Black" through a fantasy wasteland toward the titular Dark Tower. There have been seven novels, one short story, and a comic book series from Marvel Comics so far. Unlike a lot of King’s other works, “The Dark Tower” actually features appearances by other characters from King’s other stories, and was originally envisioned by King back when he was a teen lad as his “King-ish” take on the spaghetti Westerns.

This could be really great or really bad. The production values would have to be very high. Like say on the level of the Lord of the Rings films. But I for one would like to see this in a film series and not a T.V. series. either way though this story is fairly different then a lot of things seen today.

I agree, this could be disastrous. They would for sure have to make it more then just a trilogy, there is so much more story to tell then in just 3 movies. and they have to keep it gritty. ex: if Roland finds a way to save jake in the first movie, i am walking out of the theater. i always thought the series would make a solid animated series, like an anime. i hate anime but it seems like the best way for them to get ALL the story in there. God dont let them screw the pooch on this one
