First Images From THE THING Prequel - Good, Bad, Do You Care?

A lot of people are scoffing at the idea of this project. Making a prequel to John Carpenter's classic THE THING is an uphill battle in the first place. Adding even more barriers to that hill is the simple fact that for a dated film the special effects are still some best around...

Follow up:

Regardless the film is in production and today we get the first batch of stills from the set. The prequel to John Carpenter's "THE THING" will hit theaters everywhere on April 29th, 2011. Feast on the images below and let us know if you think this is film is a good idea or a bad idea?

....the ice shot looks pretty.....i wonder if they are on the ship....wait nope dont relay care...JC's original one told me everything i needed to know about what happen to the "SWEEDS"

if i do check it out it would be STRICTLY to "riff" it and then complain about how crappy the cgi is in comparison the the real effects used in the first

I just hope they pray that they don't use CGI in the movie and do everything on set with the effect .

I like them, i know it may be too early but from what i can tell of the photos it looks like it'll blend in "retro" style with the original.

I think it's a great idea. People scoff at it because they're jumping the gun as usual! Wait till it comes out then make your decision whether it was worth your money. At least it's not a remake of remake!

I'm kind of excited in seeing the prequel myself. I think it was a very smart idea to do a back story, even though we got some hints from the first one, it will be nice to see it in action actually. And I have to agree, I hope they don't use cgi, i would rather see Rob Bottin back and do his magic like in the first one.

Iactually have got to mention you come up with many good facts and probably will put up a number of choices to add in after a day or two.
