Breaking: HATCHET II Unrated Has Been Pulled From U.S. and Canadian Theaters

We just got word via Adam Green the director and mastermind behind HATCHET and HATCHET II that the film has been pulled from theaters. No word on what the cause is at this point although we have been told a full press release is coming tomorrow. Judging by the 8 people that had to card us going into the theater and the hoopla that the "unrated" rating caused, we are hedging our bets AMC theaters had a rough time explaining the situation to the "regular" audiences...

Follow up:

This is really sad news considering how much hype there was for this film and all the positive reviews, including our own. This was a fun movie. Was it gory? yes! Someone even ran out of our theater to vomit. I've never witnessed that before but it was one helleva a ride and it's a shame it didn't get its proper run. Stay tuned for a full update tomorrow Bidites.

That's pretty stupid actually. The gore is nothing compared to some of the brutal violence that is portrayed in other films. This movie is so over the top that the gore isn't upsetting in any way. Maybe people should stop being wankers and get over it. Who the hell goes into a movie called Hatchet and doesn't expect some gore????

We're also wondering if the MPAA had something to do with this. Tomorrows press release will be interesting to say the least.

You know the MPAA's name is written all over this one! That's the problem of releasing unrated versions of a film, it's a chance you take. I never got a chance to see the film since it didn't play in Oregon .

The sad truth is that it got pulled because IT MADE ABSOLUTELY NO MONEY! Theaters aren't going to devote one of their screens that they could be showing the latest blockbuster on to a movie no one is going to see. A big kudos to all of you (us) that went to see it, we are the few, the proud, the real horror fans. The horror community in general, however, for whatever reason wouldn't get up and support the cause of hardcore horror returning to theaters. Sad but true. So all of you that bitch about PG-13 horror and endless remakes, you have no one but yourselves to blame for the failure of a gory as hell original flick failing. Sorry I had to do that, rant over.

Completely unfair. I would have gone to see it if it was at a theater near me. The only theaters in Washington that I heard were showing it were in Seattle. That is a long ways away from me, I am not familar with the area, and I had to work all weekend long. I felt bad that I couldn't go. Nathan, you shouldn't just accuse people of not being true horror fans like that, that is what a douche does.

Why don't we go to AMC's site and complain instead? I am sure everyone who is reading this article has spent money in their theaters at some point. We are their customers and our opinions should count as much as all their customers who are prudes who hate horror. You know why companies listen to those prudes? Because they complain.Well, instead of just bitching to eachother on the internet, why not bitch to the theaters and get the point across that we want to see films like Hatchet 2? Remind them we spend money too.

Hey Moon, those who don't live within driving distance of somewhere showing it, I get that, you aren't who I'm talking about. I'm talking about cities like Atlanta, that have a large horror community and 2 theaters showing it within an hour drive and still didn't go. I'm talking about the people who whine and whine that horror movies have no balls any more, but when they DO have an opportunity (which you obviously did not) to try to change things, don't.
Now that I look at a lot of the responses, it also seems that a lot of people didn't know it was only playing October 1st. Some people may have thought that could go see it later. The people I'm angry at aren't the ones who either couldn't go or didn't understand the nature of the release, but those who were just too lazy or ambivalent to help out the cause.

Hi, I found this blog once, then lost it. Took me forever to come back and find it. I wanted to see what comments you got. Nice blog by the way.

This is such a stupendous resource that you are providing and you give ground it away in place of free. I love seeing websites that catch on to the value of providing a standing resource for the sake of free. It is the hoary what goes in every direction comes circa routine. Did you acquired lots of links and I over lots of trackbacks??
