Will FRIDAY THE 13TH: PART 2 Ever Happen? - Jason's Return to Crystal Lake

You either feel strongly one way or the other about whether a follow up movie to the successful 2009 remake should be made. Fans will remember that PART 2 in the "new" Jason saga was supposed to take place earlier this year on Friday, August 13th. That date has since come and gone and the question remains. Are we any closer to seeing Jason Voorhee's on the big screen again?...

Follow up:

When the remake debuted at the box office and brought in a whopping $100 million dollars it was immediate, plans for a sequel were in the works. So far were they in the works that Platinum Dunes (the production company behind the new series) already announced they had a script being worked on and it was nearly complete.

We even learned that in the second installment we would see Jason Voorhee's in a new element that we'd never seen before. Jason in snow. It had us excited to see where the film would take us. 3D rumors were running wild and it seemed like it would be only a matter of time before camp Crystal Lake would be in our future.

Shooting was to begin in late 2009 but as the year came to an end no green light was ever given. Producer Brad Fuller updated fans with a statement saying, “Still hoping for some good news that will take us back to Crystal Lake." But all remained quite. Nearly a full year later we are still awaiting to here word on whether or not the project will take place.

Recently our friends at STYD caught up with Brad Fuller and the producer had this to say about the sequel. "There's just no movement on it right now. Paramount and New Line are simply evaluating if they're going to make it and that's what's happening." He also revealed that Platinum Dunes was taking baby steps away from the horror genre with plans for a Monster Squad remake and an action film in the works.

With money to be made one would think a revisit including Jason back on the big screen would happen. But it certainty doesn't sound like a given. Platinum Dunes is trying to broaden their company by stepping away from the horror genre. This however doesn't mean the project won't happen. A new production company would likely step in and acquire the rights for the film, of course for the right price.

It's likely we haven't seen the last of Jason Voorhee's running around the woods, murdering camp counselors and terrorizing Crystal Lake. But as time passes the shadows of doubt start to creep in making us wonder if we truly has seen the last of Jason on the big screen. Time will tell.

The Friday remake was pretty much the only remake of the classic slashers that I really enjoyed, Halloween and ANOES had good moments but all in all there were just plain bad. I was really hoping for a sequel to Friday and I'm still gonna hope. Once the want from the fans gets large enough they'll have to give into our demands.

Nice article, guys. Yes, the neverending saga of PD, Warner, Paramount and the sequel has been a long road already. We have documented so much of the happenings within the last year at www.fridaythe13thfilms.com. The last official word from Warner Bros., that we are aware of, comes from the head of distribution and it was back in May.

I like your poster that you created! It's similar to a fan made poster that won our sequel poster contest back in February. Check it out below.

Dude... it's because of haters and complainers like you that these movies are in the holdup.

I for one am grateful to have new F13th or NoES on the big screen, new material to see and new fans to enter the community but with people that just complain because PD didn't do the movie they wanted to see this is not going to happen.

fans have gotten WAY to arrogant and they won't realize it's them that's killing the franchises.

I absolutely LOVE the snow idea. So much can be done. Since Friday The 13th changes each year to different months...I think it's a great move that can only help the franchise...even if only done this time. Jason decked out in Snow Jason gear...Arctic Jason gear...and straight up Yeti Guile Suit Gear hunting people....following blood trails in the snow...pulling ice fishermen into the holes they dig...jumping out of the snow...chopping the head off a dude on a snowmobile...putting someone in a snow remover...hiding in a snowman...I mean...the list goes on and on. A dude could be skiing down a hill and instead of a tree...he runs into Jason.

Make the damn movie already and please don't RESTART the restart. The dude from Trick r Treat who played Peter Parker's professor with one arm is probably pretty miffed that he waited all that time to play The Lizard only to find out they restarted the series.

great article.. i for one and a huge huge huge fan of Friday the 13th and i really enjoyed the re imagining of the new movie.. i loved the contrasts and hues and tones they used when u say Jason it just made him look fucking bad ass as always :) and i would hope Hollywood pulls its head outta its ass and just goes with the 2nd movie.. i mean comeone don't fucking leave off with that great ending at the end of the re imagining where he jumps up outta the lake and grabs the girl ok u know he fucking gutted them both but still WE WANT TO SEE JASON HACKIN & SLASHING up teenagers to little pieces and in the most gruesome ways possible i know i do.. and everytime theres a jason article on here im quick to throw my 2 cents in cuz this is my favorite movie and character . On another note.. one thing tho i could really have done with out in the new movie was the GAY ass music during the parties.... christ almighty its a horror movie not goddamn twilight... there should be certin laws to making a horror movie... but back to the topic.. i really hope we get to see jason again ied be so happy i mean just think jason in snow like they said.. its dark as fuck in the woods cold as shit and so dark u cant hear him right behind u and then boom what was once white snow is now stained red with blood n guts from some dumbass camper haha i love it now lets get a green light and stop dicking around already

THANK U HORROR BID FOR ALL THE ARTICLES YOU DO ON EVERYTHING

This sucks its mid 2011 and still no Friday the 13th part 2, the idea of Jason in the snow was good. Why they didnt go ahead and greenlight part 2 doesnt make sense. Please no Nightmare on Elm Street sequel, they ruined Freddy, freddy is a child killer not child molestor, explains why the film didnt do so well. Remake Nightmare on Elm Street again and make Freddy the killer we remember from the 80s films. U can make Freddy more serious, etc and keep Jackie as Freddy, but like i say keep him in his original context, child killer, springwood slasher, not the child molestor. Friday the 13th remake makes over 100million and thats not enough for part 2 to be greenlit. Paramount get a clue, listen to the fans. We want another trip to Camp Crystal Lake and soon.
