I went as Mrs. Krueger this year and entered the maze with a friend of mine (Freddy's Nightmare Maze) and you go through all the places that appear in the movie (the remake) and you have to find Freddy inside. Thats right, someone actually dressed as Fred Krueger himself but he only comes out for certain people. My friend and I entered the room where Nancy finds her bedroom covered in snow before seeing Freddy properly for the first time. My friend thought it funny to back out and leave me alone in the room, I had no idea but passed through it and found myself in the Boiler Room where Freddy takes his victims. I could hear this tapping sound on the old pipes and there was even water dripping, it really made you feel like you were in the movie.
I spent maybe 5 minutes just looking around and saw a shadow on one of the walls in front of me, I decided to find out who it belonged too even though I practically already knew. I ended up coming face to face with Freddy and it was the best moment of my life. He circled me for a bit and laughed in that low, dry voice and ran his knived glove up my arm and whispered in my ear, "Lets have some fun..." and I practically lived my dream. I followed him around and in character we both scared the bejesus out of people, they really thought I was an actual employee and that Freddy had a new partner. It was the best night of my life!
And they do this every year, with different themes each year. Its in Queensland, Australia and its on the Gold Coast at Movie World. The event is called "Fright Nights" I totally recommend it to everyone!
it's in a historical (and documented as haunted in real life) location- Sloss Furnace.

it was quite a ride for my husband and i to go there, well over an hour, crammed into a truck with our friend, Ralph. his daughter, her friend, our son and his buddy, but it was TOTALLY worth it.
Sloss, a huge steel mill was built in 1882 and remained in operation until 1971. many people died there, working in that dangerous place. you feel it all around you there... a weight that settles on your chest-knowing that people had died there while trying to make a living...people had suffered there, working long hard hours in that blistering heat. people who weren't allowed to leave, but forced to live on the site. people that had walked where i was walking now. possibly dying where i was standing.
at the beginning of the haunt, a narrator informs you of the all the deaths that occurred where you now were. it was like a whole new experience. i felt awed by the place.
i understand that Ghosthunters have visited Sloss for an upcoming show-i simply CANNOT WAIT to see it! Sloss has also been featured on Scariest Places on Earth and Ghost Adventures. many paranormal teams have visited, all with the same result: Sloss is incredibly active.

there are narrow passages, twists and turns, even more narrow overhead walkways, stone lined underground tunnels which drip with water and moss. and a darkness that goes on forever..it's surreal. long industrial metal staircases, literally thousands of hiding places for actors. actors everywhere. under your feet, over your head, hanging from a beam, right in your face.
explosions, sparks, heat, loud screeching and humming-industrial sounds. and over it all, the smell of the raw metal and the burning.
by the end, i had my face in my husbands back. me, who is so jaded about haunted houses. i can call most props by name and tell you how much they cost as soon as i see them in lesser haunts... but Sloss is different.
it is AUTHENTIC.
want to know another cool thing about Sloss? after we'd come out, we began talking to one of the workers selling tickets. when she heard we do a haunt, and had driven a long way crammed into a truck to see their wonderful haunt, THEY LET US GO THROUGH AGAIN! we were led right back through the Fast Pass line and were given V.I.P. treatment.
True Southern Hospitality!
there are wonderful people running this haunt.
and this haunt is actually haunted 365, not just in October.
to me it is the best haunt in the world; the haunt that all other haunts will be compared to, and come up short.
A couple years ago, a bunch of my friends and I decided to organize a trip to Lake Compounce for the rides and of course, the Haunted Graveyard. When the time came for us to go to the Haunted graveyard, I was caught between being scared and excited. As the 6 or 7 of us started to make our way through this maze that appeared to be like a castle, there were these people with big black cloaks on and these pretty awesome skeleton masks (not the crappy, wal-mart kind). They were in the corners and everytime they jumped out at you, you looked their way then someone else would jump out behind you again. It was a long maze, and the Graveyard had only just begun.
After the maze and some other bits and bobs of scary costumes, props, and people jumping out and stalking you, we made it to a graveyard. There were bodies everywhere and they didn't move. But some were actual people and you would think they were just a prop. They would get up and slowly follow you until you noticed. when you did they would chase after you and you could only run so far. We then made it to this passage... we all stopped. it was pitch black. I said, "soo, who wants to go first?" (I laughed nervously). One of my closer friends led the pack. we all formed a line and held each others shoulders. I couldnt see a thing but the intensity was nuts; you had no idea what was happening, but you knew something was up. By the time we got out, there was this group (about 3 people from what I remember) dressed like the nurses (I think it was nurses) from Silent Hill. They were in crooked shapes and the they hobbled after us. it scared the crap outta me so much. So i went ahead and there was some people in front of me that I got mixed in with. For a minute or two, I lost my friends. But I quickly rendezvoused with them. I and my friends were facing down a dark corridor and nothing was there; just two walls. We started to make our way down when we heard some stomping behind us with the clash of chains in every step. I was just freaked out only until he revved up a chainsaw. I almost soiled myself; not even kidding. he started to pick up but we didn't look behind us; we just ran. at one point we were all running and got stuck in the corridor from all of us trying to get around one-another. As we rounded the corner, someone dressed as leatherface confronted us with a big chainsaw. of course he couldn't touch us at all since it was this public event so he eventually walked on.
The rest is rock and roll history. The rest of the graveyard was a blast, but none of the events that happened were as intense and exciting as that moment when we were chased down the corridor. We couldn't stop talking and joking about it all night. I can't wait for Halloween this year.
I visit Netherworld at least four times every October. I have been in lots of haunted attractions but Netherworld is the attractions attraction. The most atmospheric Haunted attraction I have ever seen. So well thought out and built for scares & screams. If you visit Atlanta in October you have to visit the most incredible haunted attraction I have ever visited. NETHERWORLD. I have had so many awesome experiences there. It is non stop fun and non stop thrills. Great actors, great sets, awesome effects, and well worth the humble admission price.
We've been running since the last weekend in September & all reviews have said, for what it is, it delivers the fear better than Halloween Horror Nights, Busch Gardens' HalloScream, & anything else!

The House of Shock has a freak show outside of their haunted attraction that is accompanied by loud rock and roll and amazing pyrotechnics (with blue flames that shoot out into the sky and warm the air by at least 20 degrees). Once the freak show starts you quickly discover who amongst your group is squeamish as several people appear on stage with hooks through various parts of their body which are then attached to various things. The most shocking of which is a woman who has a hook in, shall we say, her nether regions. She hooks a long chain to it and then attaches a baby doll to that chain and then proceeds to swing it around (without using her hands...). The most amazing thing about the freak show, though, is that once it ends you realize you haven't even entered the haunt yet and with an intro like that you know it's going to be good...
Once the haunt begins all haunt goers are sworn into the Church of Satan. To say this made some people uncomfortable would be an understatement. You then proceed through scenes of a trash strewn, seedy New Orleans street, complete with graffiti and a dead hooker.
The application for haunt employees must have a requirement that says, "must be a bit insane and violent" as I lovingly refer to the House of Shock as the full contact sport of haunting. No one comes out unscathed. During my visit I came out bruised, scraped and with gore makeup all over my arms, face and clothing, including a full on fake blood clot on my shoulder. It was delightfully disgusting.
My visit to House of Shock happened in 2008 as part of a multi-state haunt tour. One of the only things that actually freak me out are cockroaches. This haunt was so original, shocking and intense that it was more than worth the trip on a cockroach infested tour bus. I highly recommend it to anyone who finds themselves near New Orleans during the haunt season.
I took several photographs while I was there (please note that these photos were taken with a point and shoot camera, not my professional gear, and were not edited in any way -- also please note that customers who are not part of an organized haunt tour are not permitted to take photos inside the haunt). They can be seen here:

I've been working with the haunted attraction industry for years and I know haunt owners around the world. Believe me, there's no such thing as 13 Floors.

Here's a little video I made for them with pictures I took and edited. It was tough because they don't want to give too much away.

The best haunted place is actually MY house on Halloween! But I won't have video of that until AFTER Halloween!

Thanks horrorbid!
It took place in an abandoned barn(which is actually haunted) and it is 3 floors.
It was a great time from the first room of creepy ghostly girls to the end with deranged hillbilly psychopaths. And everything in between was great, too.
Scary clowns filled one room, there were surprises around every corner, there was never a moment where you thought you were 'safe.' There was always a jump, a scare, a scream.
Some of the characters actually grabbed you, although not rough, which made it seem like you had to fight for your life so you wouldnt get separated from your group. And it was so dark, you had to feel around.
If you're in Illinois, go check it out. Words can't describe this place. It was awesome.
