Snake Plissken in ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK Remake Still in Question

A few days ago it was announced that Jeremy Renner, the Oscar-nominated star of THE HURT LOCKER had been offered the role of the eye patch wearing, ultimate badass Snake Plissken. All this was set to happen in New Line's remake of the John Carpeter classic ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK...

Follow up:

Today we learn, not so fast, says thewrap.com. According to the site, Renner's representative is denying the claim. So that leaves the role in question. Trying to replace Kurt Russel (Snake Plissken) in such an iconic "cult" role is one that is truly going to be tough. This is nearly the equivalent of trying to replace Bruce Campbell in EVIL DEAD should, God forbid, a remake ever get off the ground. Stay tuned for more information as we get it.
