Sir Anthony Hopkin's THE RITE Tops This Weekends Box Office
Horror is number one at the box office this weekend and that is never a bad thing in our book. Taking home $15 million domestically this weekend was the latest forary into the booming "exorcism" genre that has really been hit or miss lately. It's tough to make any film that will instantly get compared to the forever great THE EXCORCIST...
Follow up:
The movie does come in on the low end of expectations but should go on to easily make back its $37 million dollar budget. RABBIT IN RED fans (CLICK HERE) will remember a little wager our host Vincent Paul made with Michael J. on what the box office numbers would be. Congrats to Mike who won bet for prediciting THE RITE (insert laugh track) box office numbers for this film. And horrible bettin' on your part Vinnie, you big scruffy Italian nerf herder you. If none of this makes sense then start checking out the show! It's like a bad 80's sitcom, you really don't care to find out what happens next but you feel compelled to anyway.
Last week's winner NO STRINGS ATTATCHED, starring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman, fell to second place with taking in just $13.7 million this weekend. The comedy has already grossed around $40 million on a $25 million budget. Can Portman do anything wrong lately?
Meanwhile, Jason Statham's remake of Charles Bronson cult classic THE MECHANIC ended up in taking the third place spot grossing $11.5 million, which is being reported is more than CBS Film was hoping for the flick.
