SCREAM 5 and 6? Wes Craven Finally Speaks About The New Trilogy and Early Script Issues
In the latest issue of Total Films Magazine director Wes Craven finally spoke up about some hot button rumors that have run ramped since production began for SCREAM 4. From the initial script debacle (writer Kevin Williamson's script was rewokred by Ehren Kruger) to the talks of this being a whole new trilogy, Craven as always is very candid with his answers...
Follow up:
When asked about the script debacle and what exactly went down, Craven had this to say:
"During production, Craven tweeted that he was “no longer in control of the script” as Scream 3 writer Ehren Kruger came in to rework Williamson’s draft. “I was just stating the fact,” he recalls. “In some ways it’s a Wes Craven film, and in way it’s not entirely, because it’s not a script I have control of. It’s ultimately controlled by what the studio wants in the script. My job is much more bringing whatever experience and expertise and creativity I can.” He pauses. “Look, there was a bumpy period when things shifted over from Kevin to Ehren. I signed up to do a script by Kevin and unfortunately that didn’t go all the way through the shooting. But it certainly is Kevin’s script and concept and ideas and themes.”
As for SCREAM 4 being the jump start of a new trilogy, the director commented by saying:
“When I initially met with Kevin, he sketched out what the next two would be, and I found it really fascinating,” he concludes. “A lot depends on whether they come up with scripts to flesh out. But certainly, I’m up for it, if the script is there. It’s a fascinating thing to do two trilogies in a career.”
Very interesting comments on many levels with the most notable being that Craven nearly called his career quits after the poor reaction of his last film MY SOUL TO TAKE which bombed at the box office. It will be interested to see and obviously it would appear if SCREAM 4 does well that we will more than likely see 5 and 6.

As for My Soul To Take failing... That's because it was a horrible movie. But the way I see it, ever good writer and director, every artist has to have one shitty project, or at least one that people deem shitty. But I don't think I'm alone in my opinion of that movies overall shittyness. lol
I mean, how many franchises can we name that kept putting out good sequels? Not many, if any. Usually with sequels, they start getting dumber and dumber as the series goes on and eventually it's killed off, causing a Reboot. I wouldn't want the same thing to happen to Scream.
Not to mention, too many sequels also causes the franchise to get played out and eventually people aren't interested anymore. Like SAW for example. We kept getting a new movie every year and eventually interest in the series began to decline and they decided to end the series with SAW 3D.
