As it has been said many times before, wrestling and horror for some reason or another seem to go hand in hand. Is it due to the societal mentality that comes with liking both of the "genres". For whatever reason both horror and wrestling never get the respect that they both have earned. Both taking in fistfuls of cash and both being significant influences on our culture and society...

There may never be a "good" explanation but there is an undeniable link between the two mediums and whether you're a fan of both or not chances are, you know some one that is. With that being said wrestling is something that many of us grew up watching, it is something that is marketed to a younger audience therefore children are more likely to follow it at an early age rather than our beloved horror genre.

That brings us to our point. The Undertaker (Mark William Calaway) has represented the WWF/WWE for over two decades ushering in a gimmick that has remained strong (with a brief exception) as the "deadman". A force of the supernatural that can't be denied, beaten but never extinguished. Closer to a horror figure than a wrestler, the characters impact has no doubt influenced fans of wrestling and horror. Being a fan of horror at a young age and of wrestling it was always interesting to see what story the Undertaker would be involved in because it usually dealt with some of the elements I loved in the horror genre.

As Wrestlemania 27 takes place this Sunday in Atlanta, Georgia we thought it would be an interesting conversation to bring up to all you Bidites. What impact does a character like the Undertaker have on our beloved horror genre? Does his "deadman" gimmick still hold a relevancy by allowing a younger audience a chance to "get to know" the love of horror and all that comes with it. Does it prove that horror is so engrained in our culture that a character like the Undertake can keep the same "gimmick" for this many years with fans still enchanted by it? We would love to hear your thoughts, not just on the subject of the Undertaker but wrestlings relationship with horror in general.
