Forgotten 80's Horror Films - From Cliches to Cult Classics
In the 1980's, Freddy, Jason and Michael slashed their way through the horror scene to rule supreme. However, we feel it is our civic duty at HorrorBid to introduce our Bidites young and old to some lesser known 80's horror fare they may not be familiar with. The easiest way to do this is by taking some of the best known 80's horror cliches and briefly reviewing the movies that fall under these categories...

You can't talk about 80's horror or just about any decade of horror without mentioning remakes. It's no secret that we like to poke fun at the current state of the remake trend. Everything, and we mean everything, that was anything will, or already has been remade. Its one of those areas you have to live with regardless of whether you might "like" it or not....

We take nothing away from those that came during the same period. We wouldn't be do the 1980's justice if we didn't recognize one of the greatest horror anthology shows to ever grace the small screen. Yes, TALES FROM THE CRYPT premiered at the end of the decade but it still served the 80's well by intorudcing us to one of the greatest animintronic puppets in the history of the world, THE CRYPT KEERPER. (no CGI needed here kids, this was all practical effects and it was brilliant)...
Coming in as one of our personal favs on our 80's horror movie list is Stephen King's big screen adaptation of PET SEMETARY. Although the film was released at the end of the decade (1989), it was still all 80's thanks to some great practical special effects and the brilliant performance by Fred Gwynne ("...not much further now")...
Come on! This is too easy! A GHOSTBUSTERS story comes across the wire? We can't avoid an 80's touch on this one. Sir Daniel Aykroyd is in the news today and courtesy of our friends at camp 
You're looking at the intro pic and title of the article scratching your head, it's 80's week! Were ya been? You either love him or hate him. The one thing you can't argue is Eli Roth's is basically an updated version of an 80's Tom Savini. Told you we were keeping it 80's related all week! Roth's uncanny ability to let others know what's on his mind...
