The next chapter in the Apes saga is looking really good at the moment as Keri Russell will be taking on the female lead in Fox’s “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” along with a great cast that already includes Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Kodi-Smit McPhee and Gary Oldman.

Fox will be releasing the film on May 23, 2014. Matt Reeves comes in to replace Rupert Wyatt, who directed 2011’s franchise reboot “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” in October.

Additional details about Russell’s character were not immediately available at this time.

The casting represents a reunion for Russell and Reeves from the series “Felicity,” which starred Russell and ran for four seasons from 1998 to 2002. Reeves co-created the series with J.J. Abrams and directed several episodes.

Produced by Chernin Entertainment, “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” is set in an apocalyptic future more than a decade after “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” which grossed nearly $500 million worldwide. Script is penned by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.

Russell toplines Dimension’s sci-fi thriller “Dark Skies” and romcom “Austenland,” which premiered at Sundance. She is a regular in the FX series “The Americans.”
