Israel's First Slasher Film RABIES Infects Cannes

New postby tjonahue » Tue May 17, 2011 11:38 am

This film has been making waves at Tribeca and Cannes Film Festival and has been picked up for U.S. distribution by Image Entertainment. The film is Called Rabies (Kalevet) and has been brought to us by XYZ Films. Mongrol Media has picked up the Canadian distribution rights to the film.

This film showcases the directorial debut of NavotPapushado and Aharon Keshales, who also penned the script. The film also stars a number of A-List Israeli actors such as Ofer Shechter, Ania Buckshtein, and Lior Ashkenazi.

A brother and sister, in their twenties, run away from home after their dark secret is discovered. They find temporary refuge in a deserted nature reserve. When the sister falls into a hunting trap, set by a psychotic killer, the brother sets out in a race against time to rescue her. A forest ranger and his old dog, two apathetic cops, four tennis players and a murderer, wandering carefree amongst his traps, will all be gradually drawn into a whirlwind of misunderstandings, fears and violence.

Synopsis:
A psychotic serial killer on the loose in the woods crosses paths with a group of unsuspecting teenagers. Soon people are dying one by one… but the bad guy isn't who you think. Turning genre conventions on their head with a smart script and plenty of unexpected scares, Rabies is a surprising debut worthy of its mantle as Israel's first-ever slasher horror film.
