Sam Raimi Describes The Evil Dead Remake As "Gut-Wrenching & Intense"

New postby Brian Massey » Thu Jul 19, 2012 6:43 pm

It's been quite some time since we dropped the skinny for the upcoming remake of The Evil Dead, but thanks to the magic of the internet we now have a few ramblings from the legendary director Sam Raimi regarding the film.

Recently MTV caught up Raimi at this year's San Diego Comic-Con to promote his new film, "Oz the Great and Powerful," and when the topic of the remake came up, he spoke enthusiastically about the prospects of revisiting the series.
"We have a few more days of photography," said Raimi, who added that he was excited to see it.

As for whether he sees the new film as honoring his original, Raimi said he doesn't approach it that way. "I don't think about it like that. I just think Fede Alvarez has really made a great horror movie," he said. "It's scary. The actors are great in it. It's really gut-wrenching, real low budget and intense."

Sadly, he also confirmed from one last time that Ash will NOT appear in the new "Evil Dead."No, that character’s not in this movie."

Raimi and Bruce Campbell will produce the 2013 version which is said to be high on the horror, gore, plot twists, and more...

Jane Levy ("Suburgatory"), Shiloh Fernandez (Deadgirl, Red Riding Hood), Lou Taylor Pucci (Carriers), Jessica Lucas (Cloverfield) and Elizabeth Blackmore (Legend of the Seeker) star.

It's slightly amusing to me how much both Sam Raimi and Bruce Cambell are trying to justify this movie even existing. Whether it's good or not, just STFU and let it be... They're way too focused on internet criticism. Just release it and see what happens. I don't really feel like old fans are going to burn their copies of Evil Dead if they don't like the new one.

No Ash cameo though? That's pretty sketchy... I think they might be keeping it a secret.
