Reportedly, the new film will no longer be in 3D and it is safe to assume that with this change in direction, originally hired writers Todd Farmer and Patrick Lussier are no longer involved.
Bloody Disgusting made the initial report this morning leading us to believe that this was already a done deal, however it is now being reported By Shock Till You Drop that Platinum Dunes isn't the only contender that's eager to take the reigns of the franchise. It should be noted that Platinum Dunes and Dimension previously teamed-up on the successful remake of The Amityville Horror, so if the pair decide to actually team up again it shouldn't be that much of a shocker.
As for the direction of the film, we're already hearing that a pitch has been made by Platinum Dunes which could involve a straight-up continuation of what Rob Zombie started. However, it has also be hinted that we may see yet another reboot. Neither one of these scenarios have yet to be confirmed, so for now we'll chalk 'em up as rumor.
Time will tell if any of this actually comes to fruition. What do fans think - reboot, continuation or let the franchise die? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
