Sharlto Copley Offered The Villain Role In The Remake Of 'Oldboy'... But Will He Accept?

New postby Brian Massey » Thu Apr 12, 2012 7:33 pm

News from out of camp "Oldboy", the American remake of the Korean classic, has been rather non-existent as of late. So far only two actors have signed on for the Spike Lee film. But if all goes well, the upcoming revenge flick may have finally found a face for its antagonist.

According to Variety "District 9" star Sharlto Copley (pictured below) has been offered the villain role in "Oldboy"[/i] and is in early talks to join Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Olsen in Mandate Pictures' revenge thriller.

Based on Chan-wook Park's Korean film, "Oldboy" stars Brolin as a man who is kidnapped and imprisoned for 15 years for unknown reasons. When inexplicably released, he sets out to find out who held him hostage and why.

Copley is in early talks to play a mysterious billionaire out to destroy the protag's life, while Olsen will play a caseworker who helps Brolin's character investigate the past.

Roy Lee and Doug Davison are producing with Mandate prexy Nathan Kahane. Mark Protosevich wrote the script and will co-produce.

I love the casting and I really hope Sharlto Copley accepts the part. Not sure about Spike Lee as a director but we will just have to wait and see. Old Boy is an excellent film Id love to see an American remake be done well.
